When the Danckert Real Estate team decided it would be a wonderful idea to host a very special corporate event for all our our valued clients who live in the Mt Martha area, we really wanted it to have a community feel and to make the most of the beautiful area in which we live. And that's how the The Kilburn Cinema was born - an outdoor cinema night at Mt Martha House.
So after much planning, coordination and liaising with local authorities, The Kilburn Cinema came alive. The local Shire who were incredibly supportive of the event and so thorough in making sure that every box was ticked in terms of safety and comfort for our guests, and the limiting of any inconvenience to those living in the local area. From security guards, to advising local residents and emergency services, to rubbish collection and evacuation plans, nothing was left to chance (other than the weather!).
We spoke with a number of our close associates, and they loved the idea too, so we formed a strong partnership with local, like-minded businesses who understood our vision and are also strong supporters of the community.
Selecting the right film was very important, as the goal was to create a family occasion, so we were very excited when we discovered that The First Man (starring Ryan Gosling who played Neil Armstrong) was being released as the end of this year. It was the perfect choice.
And when we considered the best food and beverage offering for our guests, South Beach Project was the perfect venue to work with. Since opening around a year ago, South Beach Project has become a hub for the local community. Owned and operated by David Weill, his brother Simon and close friend Nathan (the trio behind Volpino), South Beach Project has the best location in Mt Martha for breakfast and lunch, serving casual meals to anyone who wants to pop in. "You can come straight in from the beach with no dress regulations," says David. "Thongs, singlets, barefoot – everyone’s welcome, sand and all. It's easy, breezy, delicious food - fantastic burgers, the best fish and chips and a contemporary Aussie breakfast menu with treats like Brisket Benedictine Eggs, Congee, Baked Eggs and Buttermilk Crumpets."
When we spoke to the SBP team about joining in with The Kilburn Cinema, they loved the idea. They're so enthusiastic about Mt Martha and they're also innovative and creative and nothing is ever too much trouble. Events are their speciality, from cocktail soirees, to special birthday events to larger scale weddings, so they know how to put on a show and offer guests the most delicious food served with flair. The offering for The Kilburn Cinema showed what they can create anywhere, serving our guests delicious seafood paella, pulled pork rolls, fresh falafel salad and ice-creams for all, along with fine wines, beers and soft drinks.
As we headed into December with the event only days away, the weather was the only thing on our minds. It wasn't the cold we had to worry about as it turned out, instead we had the hottest evening of the year combined with threatening storms. Our guests arrived to the most beautiful evening, with the glorious Port Phillip Bay to look out over and the smell of delicious food in the air, and whilst raindrops did cause a few umbrellas to pop up during the movie, we all managed to enjoy the film without getting too wet, and the stars even showed up during the night to add to the beautiful atmosphere.
Thank you to all of those who attended the night to make it such a special occasion, and to all of our fantastic sponsorship partners who helped to make the inaugural event such a success. See you next year!
