Robert and Victor Zagame are well known local entrepreneurs in the hospitality and automotive fields, the latter being the passion of Robert’s son Bobby. Zagame Automotive Group are the exclusive Victorian dealer for Aston Martin, Ferrari, Maserati, McLaren, Lamborghini, Lotus and Rolls-Royce and the sole importer for Pagani Automibili in Australia.
Zagame purchased Audi Mornington around ten years ago – the car dealership previously owned by Lindsay Fox (a satellite of the Brighton branch he also owned). The Mornington dealership was an extension to Zagame’s ownership of the car brand, and with six Audi dealerships they are one of Australia's largest Audi retailers. They are also an official dealer for Alfa Romeo, Fiat & Morgan in Victoria.
Ian Ross has been the Branch Manager at Audi Mornington for five years and has seen the dealership grow and prosper during that time, servicing the Mornington Peninsula and providing a strong employment hub. Says Ian, “The most difficult part about the dealership is getting staff who live locally, which is so important with this type of business. Finding the right people is key. Most of the staff are now local and they are very involved in the community, from sporting clubs to networking organisations. We also made some significant changes with our servicing department which prides itself on its first class customer service. And we have expanded our sales team as well.”
Audi Mornington now sells around 200 cars a year, predominantly new and demo models – the used cars they offer are those that have been traded in. “As a family man with two children I’m currently driving the Q7 which is a fantastic car, but my favourite would be the SQ5. It’s a medium SUV but it’s more like a sportscar and great value for money. We sell out of them all the time and there’s no real competition for it with BMW or Mercedes – it’s very unique."
Class-leading safety, connectivity and driver assistance technology. Unmatched driveability. Effortlessly elegant design. The all-new Audi Q5 builds on its remarkable reputation by delivering an even greater combination of luxury, sportiness and practicality. Praised for its performance and supremely efficient quattro all-wheel drive, the Audi Q5 has been voted carsales’ Best SUV over $50,000 2017.
As long as you make the right choice of car and finance it or pay for it in a sensible way, purchasing a new or demo model car is a sound decision. Explains Ian, "The big thing at the moment which originated in Europe is a guaranteed buy-back option, so you can finance a car and the residual value is guaranteed by the manufacturer as long as your car meets all the criteria in terms of its condition. If you tick the boxes you’ll have no negative equity. Pretty much all of the major car brands, including the Japanese brands now offer this and it’s changed the way people buy cars."
A luxury car purchase though is all about the heart strings - it’s about driving the best possible vehicle that is also a gift to yourself.
