JMC Lawyers can help you to prepare a comprehensive estate plan that best represents your wishes, including:

    - General Power of Attorney (appointing someone else with the power to make financial and/or personal decisions on your behalf for specific matters or a limited period of time)

    - Enduring Power of Attorney (authorising a person/s to make financial and/or personal decisions on your behalf, medically and financially – in the event that you can no longer do so yourself)

    - Appointment of medical treatment decision maker (allows someone to make medical decisions only)

Binding death benefit nominations (a legal nomination that allows you to record who is to receive your superannuation benefit in the event of your passing.

    - Grant of Probate (a legal document that authorises an executor/s to manage the estate of a deceased person)

    - Letters of Administration (allow the Court to appoint a person to manage and distribute a deceased's assets)

    - Application by surviving proprietor (legal personal representative)

      THE TEAM

      JONATHAN McCARTHY – Principal

Founded in the place and community he loves, Jonathan established JMC Lawyers on the Mornington Peninsula with a key goal in mind – to give back and deliver high end legal services with a more personalised approach.

Whether it be Wills and Power of Attorney, or Business and Company Law. Jonathan is dedicated to deep diving into the legal detail. Ensuring his clients feel safe and secure in the knowledge that every element has been taken care of and nothing has been neglected.

A general commercial and business lawyer, Jonathan worked for many years in Collins Street. ‘Doing the hard yards’ in the city before establishing his own practice on the Mornington Peninsula, where he grew up.

Jonathan’s passion for the law began when he studied Criminology at Melbourne University, and a Law Degree at Monash University shortly after. Completing his Articles in 2007 at the top end of town, Jonathan began his law experience effectively ‘living at the Rialto’. Trained at a really high level and programmed to perform, Jonathan gained extensive experience managing the complex legal aspects of high end commercial and business transactions.

But Jonathan’s passion for human rights drove him to become an equally strong advocate for others. Devoting a lot of time to supporting and doing pro bono work with the Central Australian Aboriginal Legal Aid Service in Alice Springs. He was based there for a number of years as a senior civil lawyer and acting Principal Legal Officer. Also working on the Royal Commission as the instructing solicitor for children in detention centres, managing the court hearings.
